So continuing with the black/beige theme and rather warm weather, I’m featuring another casual look in today’s entry: ivory herringbone linen JCrew pants, Allsaints Spitalfields black top with leather harness, and Chanel camellia slides and mini “Bubble Quilt” flap…
I’m currently mad for Allsaints Spitalfields, a chain started in the UK–here’s one of its London locations:
But regardless of the city, you can always tell you are at Allsaints because of all the antique sewing machines lined up in their stores. So here’s another look at that top–the funky harness seems to go well with the distressed hardware on my bag:

Remember how the world was “supposed” to end last month…but we’re still here? Well, something worse is actually happening to LA this weekend. It’s Carmageddon. That’s right, this weekend the already congested 405 freeway will close some of its sections on the Westside for infrastructure improvements. Pity the poor souls who booked their vacations months ago and who will now get the real taste of living with traffic in LA.
It’s a good time to not be in LA, or if you are already here, to find a way to stay in. I think it’s a great excuse to not go shopping this weekend and just play in my closet instead. So starting with today’s entry I’ll be posting an outfit a day with some recent finds.
In this matchy-matchy ensemble with the Chanel slides I recently scored, I’m featuring the beige claire jumbo flap and a matte pailletes tank I got from JCrew last week during their summer sale. I love anything with black and beige almost as much as black and white. I’ll be wearing this outfit with my skinny capri jeans to dinner.

Last night I was reading an old (2010) article in Vogue about how the retail industry would have to adapt not just to an online presence but more specifically to reaching customers via their smart phones. That tiny mobile device is now the ultimate gatekeeper to a buyer’s wallet.
How timely that I read this–albeit 9 months later–because earlier this week, while I was telling myself that I was finally ready to put the summer sales behind me to focus on the fall collections, I received an email on my phone from a sweet friend (I shall leave “J” nameless but she knows who she is!) as she was blowing through the Vegas Chanel boutiques. She said that she’d just seen a sweatshirt in my size on sale at the Wynn and thought of me.
Toggling from her email, I scrolled through my contact list and connected with said boutique. The next day I received an email of the tracking information for the package and was able to basically follow the package as it made its way to me…all from my phone.
There are several apps (Chanel, Gucci, etc.) on my phone that give me the latest updates as new collections are revealed on the runway. Great diversion to fight boredom while waiting for the plane or dentist. I also a have a few apps (Netaporter, Gilt, Amazon, etc.) that allow me to buy directly from the vendors. Much more dangerous diversion! For the most part, however, I am still very old school even if technology is at my disposal. I prefer to simply get texts with pictures from my favorite sales associates. All I have to do is reply “yes” and voilĂ , the gatekeeper steps aside…and hello, Mr. Fedex!
I love the 4th of July because even the moniker “Independence Day” is such a call to action. The legacy of this young country that I now embrace as my own is that we get to take freedom as a given. Every day that we wake up, freedom awaits us. There’s no greater luxury than that.
Not that it should ever be taken for granted, but the very fact that we do feel somewhat entitled to freedom while going about with our lives, unhindered by having to watch what we say or do as if our lives depended on our actions, is a true testament to all the sacrifices that have been made for our independence. So on this day, I’m going to celebrate my freedom as if my life depended on it
.
Happy 4th of July everyone!
This is so wrong…am I right? But is it wrong that I got almost all the permutations from this collection, or is it wrong that I didn’t get all of them
?
In my defense, I will probably make very good use out of all these shoes for a long time, and the fact that they match pretty much everything in my closet, I won’t have to buy (Chanel) shoes again for a while. Plus sales stuff is harder and harder to come by anymore in my size.
What, no? Not buying my rationalizations?
But the camellias are so cute, how could I refuse?
