Luck is my favorite four letter word. When I walk in my shoes each day, I understand exactly the first sentence in Mademoiselle Chanel’s quotation above. Luck is both a state of mind and a manifestation of the very hard work that goes into staying lucky. And when I reflect on all the mentors and guardian angels who have provided me refuge in my darkest hours, I understand her second sentence. Luck is recognizing that it is not a frailty but a blessing to receive the embrace of a much bigger world than yourself when you need it. As for her last sentence? I believe whatever you choose to be in your soul is how you define your life’s journey. I could certainly do much worse than to ask luck to be my travel companion.

The Chanel Jacket Diaries, Part 4: And sometimes it’s just about dumb luck, of which I have been a huge beneficiary in the fashion department. Luck is when things match serendipitously, even if you buy things years apart. I think the Missoni silk top is the oldest item in today’s look (if you don’t count me :D), followed by the jacket, then the YSL python Tribtoo slingbacks.
